Abstract
This study investigates the roles of extroversion and social self-concept in the relationship between internet addiction and social media burnout among 200 Brazilian adults aged 18 to 45. Findings indicate a positive correlation between internet addiction and social media burnout, while both are negatively correlated with extroversion and social self-concept. Notably, social self-concept—but not extroversion—partially mediates the link between internet addiction and social media burnout, suggesting that individuals’ perceptions of their social skills influence this relationship. The study highlights the importance of psychological interventions to promote healthy internet use and social skills, while acknowledging limitations related to sample diversity and self-report measures.
