Abstract

This article qualitatively analyzes discussions about female sexual desire on the Reddit subreddit TwoXChromosomes to explore women's experiences with libido and compare them to current clinical understandings of female sexual dysfunction (FSD). The study found that posts, primarily from heterosexual women in their 20s and 30s, frequently addressed psychosocial themes such as relationship dynamics, psychological distress, and the impact of medications—particularly antidepressants and hormonal birth control—on libido. Users described challenges including mismatched sexual desire with partners, feelings of guilt and anxiety, and dissatisfaction with healthcare responses to their concerns. The findings highlight the complex interplay between sexual desire, mental health, relationships, and medical treatment, suggesting a need to broaden clinical definitions of female sexual problems to better encompass psychosocial factors and sexual well-being.
