Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the interaction between ultra-Orthodox Jewish (haredi) culture and Western popular psychology, utilizing Goffman's frame analysis. Conducted through an ethnographic study of a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) training course for haredi men in Israel, the research identifies three framing strategies—confrontation, negotiation, and make-believe—that participants use to manage cultural discrepancies. The findings suggest that cultural adaptation is a complex and ongoing process, often involving rejection and partial absorption of new ideas rather than a straightforward integration. The study highlights how groups can maintain cultural boundaries while engaging with external concepts. [Extracted from the article]
