Japan’s earthquake devastation.

Abstract

NewsSmoke rises from the wreckage of collapsed homes in Wajima, Japan, as fires burn after a spate of earthquakes. The biggest, a magnitude-7.6 quake, hit the areas around Toyama and Niigata on 1 January. The number of people confirmed dead was close to 50 as New Scientist went to press, with rescuers still searching for people trapped beneath the rubble.PHOTO (COLOR) [Extracted from the article]
