Abstract

The article examines the potential for disruption in the construction industry through technological innovation, highlighting its historical resistance to rapid change and the challenges faced by automation and robotics on dynamic job sites. While advanced technologies like Building Information Modeling (BIM) have improved coordination and efficiency—primarily benefiting larger contractors and institutional owners—many automated solutions remain impractical or cost-prohibitive for the predominantly small and medium-sized firms that characterize the industry. Factors such as decentralized project structures, labor cost management practices, and the complexity of construction environments limit widespread adoption of robotics. Despite these constraints, digital tools and modeling continue to advance gradually, suggesting an evolutionary rather than revolutionary transformation in construction practices.
