Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at IRCCS Centro Neurolesi Bonino Pulejo in Messina, Italy, explored the use of a multi-sensory environment (MSE) on sensory behaviors in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The study found that the MSE intervention, which involved self-controlled sensory interactions, had a significant impact on taste, smell, tactile behaviors, and gross motor skills in preschool children with ASD. The researchers concluded that MSE-integrated intervention may be a valid strategy to improve the self-management of sensory profiles in individuals with autism, but further studies are needed to better understand the methodology and effectiveness of this intervention.
