Abstract

This article focuses on assessing human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates among Cadets at the United States Military Academy (USMA) from 2018 to 2022. The retrospective study found that 60.8% of 9,433 Cadets received at least one HPV vaccine dose, with an overall vaccine series completion rate of 47.6%; female Cadets had higher initiation (67.7%) and completion (55.6%) rates compared to male Cadets (58.8% initiation, 45.2% completion). Minority ethnic groups were more likely to initiate vaccination than White, non-Hispanic Cadets, though completion rates were similar across ethnicities. Despite these rates being comparable to the general U.S. population, they fall short of the Healthy People 2030 goal of 80% vaccination coverage, prompting recommendations for USMA to revise its HPV vaccine policy to increase uptake and for further research into vaccine hesitancy and stigma within the military community.
