Isolation of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum for treatment of Salmonella infection in mice.

Abstract
This article focuses on the isolation and evaluation of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum LP618, a probiotic strain derived from healthy human fecal samples, for its therapeutic potential against Salmonella enterica infection. L. plantarum LP618 produces high levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), particularly acetate, and demonstrates strong in vitro inhibition of Salmonella growth while surviving gastric and bile conditions. In a mouse model, post-infection treatment with L. plantarum LP618 alleviated diarrhea, reduced inflammatory markers, and restored intestinal mucosal structure, suggesting its capacity to promote recovery from Salmonella infection. The study highlights L. plantarum LP618 as a promising alternative to antibiotics, addressing concerns about antibiotic resistance and gut microbiota disruption, though it notes challenges related to probiotic use and the need for further clinical research.
