Abstract
The article discusses research on the potential causal associations between genetic predispositions to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and psychiatric disorders, particularly schizophrenia. Conducted by researchers from Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, the study utilized genome-wide association study (GWAS) data from 192,702 participants. The findings indicate a slight causal relationship between genetically predicted POAG and an increased risk of schizophrenia, while no significant associations were found with other psychiatric disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, or depressive disorder. The researchers suggest that optimized strategies for managing the comorbidity of these conditions should be developed in clinical practice. [Extracted from the article]
