Abstract

This article focuses on the clinical significance of covert toxocariasis, a helminth infection caused by Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati, in relation to inflammatory skin disorders (ISD) in French Guiana. The retrospective study included 74 patients with serologically confirmed toxocariasis, of whom 15 exhibited skin symptoms such as eczema, chronic pruritus, and atopic dermatitis. Most patients treated with antiparasitic drugs, primarily albendazole, experienced complete resolution of skin symptoms, suggesting a potential role for toxocariasis in triggering or mimicking ISD in this tropical region. The study highlights the need for further prospective research to clarify the relationship between covert toxocariasis and dermatological conditions, especially in areas with high helminthiasis prevalence.
