Abstract

This article focuses on numb chin syndrome (NCS) as an initial clinical manifestation of multiple myeloma (MM), a hematologic B-cell malignancy characterized by abnormal plasma cell proliferation and destructive bone lesions. It presents two cases where patients exhibited NCS alongside mandibular radiolucencies detected via cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), which prompted further diagnostic workup confirming MM through bone marrow biopsy and hematologic tests. The article emphasizes the diagnostic challenge posed by MM's diverse and nonspecific symptoms, highlighting the importance of dental practitioners recognizing NCS and characteristic radiographic findings—such as multiple well-defined "punched out" lytic lesions—to facilitate early diagnosis and improve patient outcomes. Imaging modalities including CBCT, MRI, and PET/CT are noted as critical tools for diagnosis and monitoring, while treatment strategies involve targeted therapies and bone marrow transplantation.
