Abstract
This article focuses on the role of healthcare providers (HCPs) in promoting healthy lifestyle education among active duty military personnel during annual physical health assessments (PHAs). A survey conducted at the Pensacola Military Health Clinic in 2023 found that 45.5% of service members did not receive education on healthy eating and exercise from their HCPs, despite all patients reporting understanding other health information discussed. The authors emphasize that HCPs should be the primary advocates for addressing obesity and fitness as chronic health concerns within the military, recommending mandatory inclusion of healthy lifestyle counseling in PHAs and implementation of quality metrics to ensure consistent patient education. The article highlights the importance of HCP-patient relationships in sustaining military readiness amid rising obesity rates and reduced physical fitness standards. [Extracted from the article]
