Abstract

The article reports on the prevalence of peri-implant diseases—specifically peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis—in a representative German population from the 6th German Oral Health Study (DMS • 6). Among participants aged 35–44 and 65–74 with dental implants, peri-implant mucositis was common (approximately 30%), while peri-implantitis was rare (around 1%). Severe periodontitis (stage III/IV) was significantly associated with an increased risk of peri-implant disease, whereas factors such as age, gender, diabetes, smoking, and professional tooth cleaning frequency showed no significant association. The study's findings are based on clinical probing without radiographic assessment, which may have led to conservative estimates of peri-implantitis prevalence.
