Abstract

A recent study conducted by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran explored the relationship between inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and sleep disturbances. The study found that more than half of the IBD patients experienced sleep impairment, with ulcerative colitis (UC) patients with pancolitis being more likely to have sleep disturbances. Additionally, patients with elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were more likely to have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and restless legs syndrome (RLS). The researchers recommend screening IBD patients for sleep disturbances and related comorbidities to improve their quality of sleep. [Extracted from the article]
