Abstract
The article focuses on Taiwan's comprehensive national efforts to eliminate hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection by 2025, five years ahead of the World Health Organization's (WHO) 2030 target. It details the epidemiology of HCV in Taiwan, highlighting high prevalence in specific populations such as patients with end-stage renal disease, persons who inject drugs, and people living with HIV, with iatrogenic transmission as a major route. Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare has implemented strategies including universal screening for adults aged 45–79, expanded access to direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatments, reflex testing to streamline diagnosis, and microelimination programs targeting high-risk groups. Despite progress in screening and treatment coverage, challenges remain in increasing public awareness and screening uptake to achieve full elimination.
