Abstract
This article explores the impact of smartphones and social media on the mental health of teenagers. It notes that the rise in smartphone and social media use has led to a decline in face-to-face interactions and sleep among teens, which has coincided with increased feelings of loneliness, depression, and unhappiness. The author argues that there is a strong link between social media use and depression, and suggests that parents and the government should take responsibility for addressing this issue. The article presents evidence from studies and experiments to support these claims. It also discusses the issue of children and teens having social media accounts without their parents' knowledge, and proposes raising the minimum age for social media use and implementing age verification measures. The article suggests banning smartphone use in schools and implementing family rules to limit device usage. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of prioritizing children's well-being over the profits of tech companies. [Extracted from the article]
