Investigation of Clostridium butyricum on atopic dermatitis based on gut microbiota and TLR4/MyD88/ NF-κB signaling pathway.

Abstract

This article focuses on the therapeutic effects of the probiotic Clostridium butyricum on atopic dermatitis (AD) using a mouse model induced by 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB). Oral administration of Clostridium butyricum significantly alleviated AD-like skin symptoms, reduced serum IgE and inflammatory cytokines, and improved skin histopathology. Mechanistically, it modulated the intestinal immune system by downregulating the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway, protected the intestinal mucosal barrier, and enhanced gut microbiota diversity and abundance. These findings suggest that Clostridium butyricum may relieve AD symptoms through immune regulation and gut microbiome modulation, offering a potential novel approach for AD treatment.
