Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between parental breakfast consumption literacy—defined as parents’ basic knowledge of the health impacts of breakfast—and their children's home breakfast consumption among 275 children aged 6–7 years and their parents in a local Chinese kindergarten. Results indicated that adequate parental breakfast consumption literacy was significantly associated with higher frequency of children’s home breakfast consumption, even after controlling for socio-demographic factors. Additionally, living in urban areas, low parental education, and parental unemployment were linked to less frequent home breakfast consumption in children. The study highlights the potential of parental-focused health education interventions to promote regular breakfast consumption in family settings and suggests further qualitative research to explore the contextual factors influencing children’s breakfast habits.
