Abstract

This article focuses on evaluating the impact of a pharmacist-led educational intervention on illness perception (IP) among patients with prostate cancer (PCa) in Nigeria and identifying predictors of IP. Conducted across three cancer reference hospitals in Cross River State, the study used the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire to assess changes in IP before and after the intervention among 200 patients. Results showed significant improvement in seven of nine IP domains following the pharmacist's education, with drug therapies, alcohol use, and Gleason score identified as significant predictors of IP. The findings suggest that pharmacist-driven education can enhance patients' understanding and emotional adjustment to PCa, potentially improving clinical and psychosocial outcomes, though further strategies are needed to address perceptions related to illness consequences and identity.
