Abstract
This article discusses the diffusion of the antibiotic cefotaxime in the vitreous humor of the eye in the context of endogenous endophthalmitis (EE), a severe intraocular infection. The study examines the pharmacokinetics of cefotaxime in three patients with microbiologically confirmed EE. The results show that cefotaxime achieved significant concentrations in the vitreous humor, with levels above the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for the pathogens involved. The findings suggest that cefotaxime could be an effective treatment option for EE. Further research is needed to investigate the intraocular pharmacokinetics of cefotaxime in inflamed eyes.
