Abstract
This article focuses on the development and implementation of antiracist social work practices within a Social Work Department at an urban comprehensive cancer center in response to systemic racism affecting Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in healthcare. The department established an Antiracism Committee (AC) that created educational strategies including social location exercises, community guidelines for discussing race, a multimedia forum, and a monthly Antiracist Clinical Case Conference to help oncology social workers (OSW) identify and address bias in themselves and the healthcare system. These initiatives aimed to empower OSW to advocate for equitable cancer care and to foster ongoing antiracist practice aligned with professional ethical standards. The article concludes that such antiracist efforts are essential for social workers across healthcare settings to confront racism, support BIPOC/AAPI patients and colleagues, and promote systemic change.
