Abstract
This article examines the relationship between housing insecurity, lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, transgender, gender-expansive, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) identities, and mental health burdens resulting from climate events among California adults using 2023 California Health Interview Survey data. Findings indicate that transgender or gender-expansive and bisexual or pansexual individuals experience significantly higher odds of adverse mental health impacts from climate events, with housing insecurity further increasing these risks. Notably, gay respondents facing housing insecurity had approximately threefold greater odds of climate-related mental health burdens compared to those without housing insecurity. The study highlights housing insecurity as a critical social determinant shaping disparities in climate-related mental health within LGBTQ+ populations and calls for inclusive, multisectoral public health strategies addressing intersecting vulnerabilities.
