Abstract

This article focuses on the development and initial validation of Eccentric Visor, a user-centered mobile application designed to support reading accessibility and eccentric viewing training for individuals with central vision loss. The app integrates evidence-based strategies such as customizable text presentation, horizontally scrolling text, and a visual fixation marker to facilitate the steady eye strategy, enabling users to maintain eccentric fixation while reading. Validation with 10 individuals with central vision loss and five low vision rehabilitation professionals showed high usability, effectiveness, and clinical endorsement, with users appreciating the app’s customization features and professionals recommending it as a complementary rehabilitation tool. Although limited by a small sample size and lack of objective clinical outcomes, the app demonstrates potential as a practical resource for independent reading and visual training, with planned enhancements to further improve accessibility and functionality.
