Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released its first-ever guidance on the clinical management of diphtheria. This guidance addresses the use of Diphtheria Antitoxin (DAT) and provides new recommendations on antibiotics for the treatment of diphtheria. The development of this guideline was prompted by a global increase in diphtheria outbreaks, particularly in Nigeria, Guinea, and neighboring countries. The WHO emphasizes the importance of vaccination as the primary prevention method for diphtheria, but also recognizes the lifesaving potential of antibiotics, DAT, and supportive care for patients with the disease. The full guidance can be accessed through the provided link. [Extracted from the article]
