Abstract
This article focuses on the oral manifestations of Morgellons disease (MD), a rare and controversial psychiatric condition characterized by a fixed delusion of infestation by nonliving organisms. It presents a case series of three patients exhibiting oral symptoms such as sensations of hair, fibers, and altered saliva, despite no clinical or microbiological evidence of infection. The study highlights the challenges in diagnosing and treating MD's oral symptoms, noting that conventional medical and psychiatric treatments often fail to alleviate these manifestations. The authors emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between dental and mental health professionals to improve diagnosis, management, and patient care, while calling for further research to establish clear diagnostic criteria and effective therapeutic protocols for MD's oral presentations.
