Abstract

The article focuses on recent developments and initiatives within the UK and international optometry and eyewear sectors. Key highlights include the College of Optometrists’ strategic plan for 2025–2030 aimed at preventing sight loss and promoting optometrists as primary eye care providers, and government-commissioned research into headlight glare to improve road safety. The British Muslim Association of Optometrists (BMAO) launched to support Muslim eye care professionals, while French eyewear brand Morel implemented energy-saving measures at its facilities. Additional topics include a Scottish retinal image research collaboration, takeover interest in eyewear producer Inspecs, the UK’s annual roadside vision screening campaign, the opening of a Deafblind UK research centre, and Eco Eyewear’s environmental initiative planting four million trees in Africa.
