Abstract

This article systematically reviews the impact of excessive screen time (ST), defined as more than two hours per day, on the development of children aged 2 to 12. Analyzing nine studies published between 2019 and 2023, the review found that excessive ST negatively affects cognitive and motor skills as well as socio-emotional regulation. The authors emphasize the need for professionals to educate parents on appropriate digital screen use and recommend public policies to raise awareness, create supportive programs, and regulate advertising targeting children on smart devices.
