Abstract

The article focuses on two rare extra-hepatic manifestations of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection in children: complete heart block with pleural effusion and acute pancreatitis. Both cases involved pediatric patients with confirmed HAV infection who presented with atypical symptoms and improved with conservative management. The report emphasizes the importance of recognizing these unusual systemic complications and advocates for the inclusion of hepatitis A vaccination in India’s national immunisation schedule to prevent such morbidity. It also highlights the need for cardiac and pancreatic evaluation in children with hepatitis A presenting with bradyarrhythmias or severe abdominal pain.
