Abstract

The article focuses on the relationship between behavioral addictions (BAs) and suicidality, highlighting a study that examines how six specific BAs—gambling disorder, gaming disorder, problematic internet use, problematic pornography use, problematic smartphone use, and work addiction—are associated with suicidal ideation and attempts among young Swiss men. The study, which involved 5,611 participants, found that all BAs were linked to the onset of suicidal thoughts or attempts, with certain BAs also associated with the recurrence of these issues. The findings suggest that BAs are significant factors in suicide risk, emphasizing the need for systematic screening and preventive measures in mental health assessments. The research is based on a longitudinal design and has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
