Abstract

The article focuses on health disparities faced by individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and describes Special Olympics Health's comprehensive PATH to Health Equity framework designed to address these inequities. This four-pronged approach targets prevention, assessment, training, and health systems to improve access to adapted health services, enhance healthcare workforce competency, and promote inclusive health policies. Special Olympics Health, known for its global sports programs for people with IDD, also provides extensive health screenings, professional training, and advocacy initiatives, demonstrating measurable improvements in health outcomes and quality of life for this population. Despite progress, the article emphasizes the need for continued collaboration across sectors to achieve true health equity for individuals with IDD.
