Abstract
The article focuses on the experience of a trans woman reconnecting with dance and techno culture during a "techno sleepaway camp," a gathering primarily of queer and trans adults in their 30s. It explores how adolescence and social belonging differ for trans people, who may undergo a "second puberty" during gender transition, leading to a unique and sometimes challenging social experience. The author reflects on the inclusive and liberating aspects of techno music and dance, which provide a space to transcend typical social anxieties and celebrate collective joy without the pressures of conventional adulthood. The piece also highlights the intergenerational dynamics within the techno scene and the importance of care and community among participants.
