Abstract
Indian classical dance, particularly Odissi, represents one of India's most sophisticated systems of cultural knowledge and embodied education. This study examines Odissi as a multidimensional educational discipline integrating physical training, emotional development, intellectual cultivation, spiritual practice and cultural transmission. Drawing upon archaeological evidence, textual authorities, temple traditions and the living Guru-Shishya parampara, this study explores how Odissi fosters holistic human development through the study of bhava and rasa, rhythmic training, expressive movement and the absorption of mythology, scriptures and Indian philosophical thought. The paper traces Odissi's evolution through centuries-old pedagogical systems - the Mahari tradition, Gotipua akhadas, traditional gurukulas and modern institutional frameworks - demonstrating its continuous relevance as an educational paradigm. Through qualitative analysis combining textual study, ethnographic observation and experiential documentation, this study illuminates how classical dance education enhances cognitive abilities, memory, concentration, discipline and emotional intelligence. Based on the author's experiences as artist, teacher and cultural ambassador the study examines Odissi's role in global cultural diplomacy and its reception on international platforms. The findings emphasize that classical dance transcends extracurricular activity, functioning instead as a profound educational instrument capable of molding disciplined, sensitive, culturally-rooted and globally-conscious citizens.
