Abstract

This article focuses on a digital workflow for rehabilitating severely discolored teeth caused by red staining from resorcinol-formaldehyde resin used in endodontic treatment. The technique involves confirming tooth integrity, preparing the tooth with a shoulder subgingival finish line, and designing a monolithic zirconia crown using CAD/CAM technology, which is polished but not glazed before cementation. The approach aims to mask severe discoloration with minimal tooth reduction and material thickness, using a high-strength zirconia material to maintain mechanical properties. Although demonstrated in a single clinical case, the method offers a prosthetic alternative for managing darkly stained teeth, with further studies needed to validate long-term outcomes across different systems and materials.
