Abstract

The article reports findings from the 6th German Oral Health Study (DMS • 6), a nationwide epidemiologic survey conducted by the Institute of German Dentists to assess tooth loss, edentulism, and prosthetic care among adults aged 35–44 and seniors aged 65–74 in Germany. Key results show a significant decline in complete edentulism among seniors to 5.0%, a reduction of over 50% since 2014, with negligible edentulism in younger adults; education level was a strong predictor of tooth loss and prosthetic treatment. There is a notable shift from removable dentures toward fixed and implant-supported prostheses, with most removable dentures in seniors being in good condition and highly accepted by users. The study projects further decreases in edentulism by 2030, reflecting improvements in oral health and prosthetic care in Germany.
