Abstract

The article explores the recognition of the rights of Indigenous Nations in international relations and the changes in international legislation. It discusses various international institutions and conferences that have addressed these rights, as well as the strategic and economic importance of Indigenous Nations. The article also highlights the failure of the rules of war to protect Indigenous Nations in conflicts with states. It concludes by discussing the Geneva Conventions and two new Protocol Agreements, which aim to protect victims of armed conflict and recognize the sovereignty of non-state combatants, including Indigenous Nations. The agreements establish rules for the treatment of prisoners of war, protection of civilian populations, and methods and means of warfare. Indigenous Nations are encouraged to invoke these agreements to shift the balance of power in their conflicts with states and facilitate peaceful settlements. [Extracted from the article]
