Abstract

The article focuses on Europe's evolving migration policies, highlighting the European Union's new Pact on Migration and Asylum set to tighten border controls and accelerate deportations. While irregular crossings have decreased due to stricter procedures and deals with transit countries, this approach has raised significant moral and economic concerns, including increased risks for migrants and labor shortages in aging European populations. The article outlines three potential paths for Europe: intensifying restrictive policies, continuing a cycle of ad hoc responses, or adopting a managed migration system that acknowledges labor needs and improves integration. It concludes that denying the necessity of migration is unrealistic and that a balanced, humane approach is essential for Europe's future stability.
