Abstract

The article focuses on recent New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) deployments and exercises, highlighting a 35-soldier infantry platoon from Burnham training in South Korea alongside South Korean and US troops for 90 days, marking the first such deployment with another planned for 2026. It also details New Zealand's participation in Talisman Sabre 2025, where over 680 personnel, including an army combat team and Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) squadrons, trained with Australian and US forces to enhance interoperability under Plan ANZAC. The RNZAF's NH90 helicopters achieved high availability rates during the exercise, while the P-8A Poseidon conducted anti-submarine operations. Additionally, the Royal New Zealand Navy contributed a mine countermeasures team and the frigate HMNZS Te Kaha, which operated with UK naval forces in the Indian Ocean.
