Abstract

Israel has declared that it has seized a strategic corridor along the border between Egypt and the Palestinian territory of Gaza, alleging that it was used for weapons smuggling. Egypt has rejected these claims and accused Israel of using them as a pretext to continue its operation in the city of Rafah. Conflicting reports have emerged about an exchange of fire between Israeli and Egyptian forces at the Rafah border crossing. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss efforts to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. [Extracted from the article]
