Abstract

Sweden's entry into NATO will enhance the alliance's defense plans against potential Russian aggression. With Russia's recent advances in Ukraine and President Putin's expansionist ambitions, European officials are concerned about a future attack on NATO. Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Finland already becoming a member. Sweden's membership will strengthen NATO's defense capabilities in the Baltic, Finnish border, and Arctic regions. Additionally, Sweden's navy and geography will play a crucial role in deterring Russian attacks, and its membership removes any ambiguity about NATO's commitment to defending Sweden.
