Abstract
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for a spate of attacks in Lamu, Mandera and Garissa counties near the Kenya-Somali border since December 2022. The operation came a day after suspected al-Shabaab militants killed at least one person and injured six others, including two Kenyan soldiers, in an ambush in Garissa county on January 17th.
