Abstract
The article reports on recent attacks by al-Shabaab in Kenya. The militant group claimed responsibility for ambushing Kenyan forces near Garissa town, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to two others. Additionally, al-Shabaab fighters burned houses belonging to "Christian civilians" in Kenya's coastal county of Lamu. The article also mentions that Kenya's Interior Ministry released the names of 35 "terror suspects" linked to attacks in Lamu, including individuals from Kenya, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and the UK. However, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission stated that most killings in Lamu were ethnically motivated rather than carried out by al-Shabaab. The article also briefly mentions an inquiry into a suspected cult leader accused of inciting his followers to starve themselves to death. The inquiry identified failures in Kenya's security and criminal justice systems and called for the passage of a Religious Organisations Bill to regulate religious institutions.
