Abstract
This article focuses on the development of a novel anatomical consultation model designed to enhance communication training in veterinary medical education by integrating the Calgary–Cambridge guide (CCG) with core curricular concepts such as knowledge, technical skills, critical thinking, reflection, cultural humility, and self-awareness. The model uses species-specific skeletal representations to visually link communication process steps with diversity and inclusion (D&I) principles and intergroup dialogue skills, aiming to foster deep learning and bridge gaps between clinical communication and reflective observation. Implemented at the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine within a six-semester Professional Skills curriculum, the model supports students in connecting communication competencies to clinical reasoning and cultural humility while reinforcing horizontal integration with anatomy and clinical skills courses. Future plans include linking the model to assessment rubrics to clarify learning objectives and evaluation criteria, thereby strengthening the connection between content and process in veterinary consultations.
