Abstract

Bandit attacks have been increasing in the north-west region of Kenya, particularly in the counties of Samburu and Baringo. In Samburu, protests were held after three herders were killed and six others were wounded in an attack. The residents blamed security agencies for failing to address the issue. There are suspicions that politicians may be funding these attacks for political gain. In Baringo, another village was raided by bandits, resulting in injuries and stolen livestock. The police have arrested a bandit kingpin believed to be responsible for the attacks in the region. In response to the escalating security threats, the Kenyan government has launched a regional counterterrorism training center in Kitui county. This move aims to strengthen the country's security, particularly in the face of increased attacks by the al-Shabaab militant group in the north-eastern and coastal regions of Kenya.
