Abstract
The article discusses the recent economic and geopolitical changes in world politics, particularly the rise of a new Cold War between China and the United States, and their impact on Latin American foreign policies. It highlights the limitations of Latin America's role in global geopolitics due to the pivot to the Indo-Pacific, but also the opportunities for regional trade and political autonomy. The article introduces the concept of active non-alignment as an option for Latin American states in the current geopolitical context. The book, which is a collection of essays, aims to bridge the gap between policy-making and academia and presents a constructivist agenda for reflection and renovation of Latin American regionalism. The contributors explore the challenges and implications of active non-alignment in the twenty-first century, with a focus on regional autonomy, non-intervention, national sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, and respect for multilateralism. The article acknowledges the need for further historical and prospective reflection to reposition Latin America as active players in the global arena. [Extracted from the article]
