Abstract
The article discusses the challenges the European Union faces in achieving its goal of reducing emissions by 90% by 2040, particularly after the far-right group Patriots for Europe was appointed as the lead negotiator for the European Parliament. This group's skepticism towards climate change may complicate negotiations on the controversial climate law, especially as progressive parties have lost influence in Europe. The European Commission recently proposed the 90% reduction target, which scientists deem necessary to meet the Paris Agreement's climate goals, but several member states, including Poland and Italy, have expressed reluctance to support it. An informal meeting in Aalborg, Denmark, will mark the first debate on this goal among EU countries. [Extracted from the article]
