Abstract

The author suggests the allusion of Ralph Ellison's novel "Invisible Man" to William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" specifically to the scene of Duncan's murder. Topics include the elements of Shakepeare's scene that further substantiate "Invisible Man's" crisis identity, the author's analysis of the knocking scene in both works, and his argument that Ellison uses "Macbeth" as a short-hand for white construction of blackness.
