Abstract
This article examines the resurgence and transformation of audio drama in Spain, driven primarily by the rise of podcasting alongside traditional radio broadcasters. It highlights a significant increase in audio drama production from 2013 to 2022, with key contributions from Spanish radio stations such as Radio Nacional de España (RNE), Cadena SER, COPE, and Onda Cero, as well as podcast production companies including Podium Podcast, Audible, and Sonora. The study finds that while new productions retain some classic radio drama techniques like cliffhangers and sound design, they also exhibit changes in content themes, formats, and production methods influenced by the podcast medium. Despite growing audience interest and professionalization, economic challenges and evolving business models continue to shape the genre's development in Spain.
