DiMassa suggests that this engagement helped Goethe to formulate a vision of salvation that was key to the completion of his own masterpiece. It was not long before Goethe discovered parallels between his own quest to embrace the world in his poetic-dramatic I Faust i and Dante's poetic masterpiece.
