Abstract
This article focuses on the 2023 Salzburg Festival's production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera *The Marriage of Figaro*, highlighting its musical and theatrical qualities. Conducted by French countertenor Raphaël Pichon and performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the production received praise for its faithful and nuanced interpretation of Mozart's score. The principal cast included Polish bass Krzysztof Bączyk as Figaro, French soprano Sabine Devieilhe as Susanna, and Guatemalan soprano Adriana González as the Countess, all noted for their vocal and acting excellence. The article also contrasts this production's respect for Mozart's music with a previous, more controversial staging by director Martin Kušej, which was criticized for its explicit and coarse reinterpretation of the opera's plot.
