Abstract

This article analyzes Kamila Shamsie's 2017 novel *Home Fire* through its intertextual relationship with Sophocles' tragedy *Antigone*, focusing particularly on the novel's reworking of Antigone's punishment and its political and moral implications. While *Home Fire* does not explicitly reference *Antigone*, it draws on its themes—especially the tension between familial loyalty and state power—and adapts the concept of entombment into contemporary issues of citizenship, statelessness, and belonging within British Muslim communities. The article argues that shared stories in *Home Fire* function analogously to the gods in *Antigone*, serving as communal sources of moral authority that challenge political overreach, thus replacing religious foundations with mythic narratives that shape justice and identity in the novel's secular context.
